These gold bar necklaces are very common. I see all major retails selling them including so many Etsy vendors. Jewelers can easily engrave a name on the plate. They come in different metals including gold and sterling silver and weights. We have a made a few in our shop that have diamonds in them.

Custom And Pretty
These necklaces are great gifts for the money. However, after custom engraving and wear, do not expect to sell them for anything more than the value of the metal - be it gold or silver. Most are fairly light weight (less than 1 dwt), but you can find more substantial ones. I would suggest those heavier ones. Also, be careful when you buy them. The solid gold and silver ones are the ones with some resale value.
